Ranging from poets to mayors to carpenters to brewers, the directorship of the Mechanics’ Bank was as diverse as young Philadelphia itself. Many of the men on the list emigrated from Europe with very little and achieved the American dream of making a name for themselves by the sweat of their backs and brows. Many others were from older American families who had been involved with the American Revolution and the brick and mortar building of the country. It is this blend of old and new that gave the bank it’s unique character and really solidifies it’s place in history. This list is a portion of the more historically relevant members and directors from the bank’s history.
